Exeter

Exeter is an ancient city with a fascinating past. It has changed greatly over the centuries, but today offers you a large collection of historic and modern visitor attractions. Its compact size makes it easy to explore. Key areas to visit include the Castle Quarter, Cathedral Quarter, West Quarter, High Street, Princesshay, Southernhay and the Historic Quayside. Exeter is the cultural heart of the South West, hosting a year-round programme of vibrant festivals and events catering for all ages and interests. Exeter is a great place to shop, with a good mix of large national chains and small independent boutiques. With its central square, the revitalised Princesshay shopping quarter hosts a varied programme of street entertainment, whilst a short walk from the heart of the city will bring you to picturesque shopping areas including Gandy Street and Magdalen Road.

Historic Quayside

Exeter's Historic Quayside is one of the most attractive areas of the city, popular with locals and visitors alike for its fascinating history, interesting architecture and lively pubs and restaurants.

It is also just a 10 minute walk, or short bus ride, from the city centre.

The Quayside has been enhanced to provide a fascinating mix of historic and contemporary design. It is the ideal place to browse in antique shops, walk and cycle, take a relaxing boat trip or find something good to eat.

There is an extensive programme of events on the River Exe, in the Transit Shed and Piazza Terracina, including dragon boat racing and art exhibitions. There is plenty to occupy families and children of all ages.

Exeter is rated as one of the top cities in the UK to eat out in. Surrounded by coast and country, this natural environment supplies wonderful fresh ingredients to be turned in to mouth-watering dishes prepared with flair and imagination.
A stroll around the city will reveal dozens of restaurants, tearooms, cafes, delicatessens and farm shops, many award winning, serving something to suit all palates and budgets. This, along with the yearly Food Festival, popular weekly Farmers Market, monthly Slow Food Market and twice yearly Continental and Italian Markets, makes Exeter an exciting place for food and drink.
Eating out need not just be about food. Most of Exeter’s pubs offer local ales and juices as well as quality beers, wines and spirits. Devon is also gaining recognition for
its vineyards – many offering tours and tastings.
