Fort of France

Fort-de-France is a French commune located in Martinique. It is the capital of Martinique. It has 82,502 inhabitants. The city is an economic and port crossroads with important activities that strengthen its economic health. History

The name of the city was Fort Royal and baptized Fort-de-France in 1807. The history of the city is marked by the creation of its colony and its rivalry with Saint-Pierre and also by natural disasters which have several ravages. Among these catastrophes we can cite the eruption of Mount Pelée in 1902. The latter devastated Saint-Pierre and consecrated Fort-de-France as the capital city of Martinique.
