Travel to Crete

Travel Crete

Ah, Crete! What a beautiful part of Greece! Don't you agree? If you have chosen a trip to Crete for your next vacation, or if you plan to spend time there on your next trip to Greece or the Mediterranean, you've planned well, as the largest of the Greek islands (and fifth largest peninsula in the country) will dazzle you with its approximately 1,000 kilometres of coastline and breathtaking beauty.

Voyage to the Island of the Gods

Of surprising variety, the Greeks call Crete the Island of the Gods for a good reason: it is incredibly beautiful. With its colourful houses surrounded by the sea, wild and picturesque landscapes, great restaurants, and beautiful beaches, Crete has all it takes for you to enjoy a dream vacation with friends, family, or your sweetheart.

What To Do in Crete

People go to Crete mainly to admire the magnificence of the coast, eat in good restaurants, sunbathe while admiring idyllic landscapes, and contemplate beautiful sunsets; in short, you travel to Crete to get away from it all and to rest. ... And to eat well, since there are so many good restaurants and terraces to stop for a coffee or a cocktail in the sun on this island perched in the southern Aegean Sea!

Four Regions, All Rich in History

If you are a history buff, you will love Crete, since the area is overflowing with historical treasures of all kinds. The cradle of Greek civilization, the area is full of historical relics testifying to the people of the past.

Divided into four main regions – Heraklion, Chania, Lassithi, and Rethymno – Crete can promise you a fabulous time, no matter where you visit.

History buffs absolutely must explore the area of Chania. Lovers of archaeology and mythology will be in their element in Heraklion, the capital of the island. It houses the most important collection of Minoan objects in its archaeological museum and the most important archaeological site in Crete.

Indeed, the palace of Knossos was built by Minos, king of ancient Crete and founder of the Minoan civilization. The site, about five kilometres from the Heraklion area, is absolutely beautiful and worth seeing.

Best Time To Visit Crete

Like other Mediterranean destinations, Crete enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Its summers are very hot and dry, while winters are milder, but still comfortable!

If you are a lover of beaches and relaxation, the best months to visit Crete are from June to September. But beware, the prices can increase during this period, the height of the tourist season.

Spring is also an interesting time to visit the area, if you prefer milder and more moderate temperatures.

No matter when you choose to visit Crete, you can be sure to return home with unforgettable memories.
