Sailing with Disney from Quebec

The question that decides the trip is not the ship, it is the port. A Disney cruise almost always begins with a flight, and that flight sets the length of the holiday, its cost and how tired everyone is on day one. Two families of options are open to a family from here.

Florida, for the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale are both Disney home ports, a few hours' flight from Montreal. This is the usual scenario, and the one that combines with a few days at Walt Disney World before or after the sailing.

Vancouver, for Alaska, in summer. The Disney Magic sails from there on five- and seven-night cruises, in 2026 and again in 2027. That is boarding on Canadian soil: no United States customs on the way out, and a domestic flight rather than an international one. Very few Quebec families know the option exists.

One address to know so you can set it aside: the Disney Adventure sails from Singapore. A remarkable ship, but not part of an ordinary family holiday from Quebec unless the whole trip is built around Asia.

This private, tropical island paradise was created just for Disney Cruise Line guests. It is the ultimate destination for most Disney cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas. Here, the ship docks directly on the island for visitors to explore all the enchanting spaces and enjoy the activities throughout the day.

Staterooms designed for families

Disney Cruise Line staterooms are specially designed for families, with staterooms ranging from lavishly appointed suites to guestroom suites with more space and scenic views. Each cabin is equipped with innovations that ensure the pinnacle of comfort and relaxation, including ample storage space and separate bathtubs with separate sinks (in most cabins).

Who Disney Cruise Line is

Initially, Disney Cruises were a subsidiary of Walt Disney World. From 1985 to 1993, Walt Disney World chartered « Premier Cruise Line », a subsidiary of « Premier Cruises », which it operated under the name of « The Big Red Boat ».

Since 1996, the Disney Cruise Line has been a subsidiary of « The Walt Disney Company ». The fleet today comprises the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, the last of these sailing from Singapore. A ninth ship, the Disney Believe, has been announced and is not yet in service.

Lifeboats

Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to have yellow lifeboats, instead of the traditional regulation orange lifeboat. Special clearance from the US Coast Guard has been obtained to display proudly the yellow lifeboats, one of the theme colors of Disney Cruise Line ships.

A ship built in 2 halves in 2 different cities

The Disney Magic was built in two halves, 100 miles apart! The bow of the ship was built in Ancona, Italy, then towed 100 miles to meet the stern at Marghera, just outside of Venice, to be perfectly joined and welded together.

An anchor of 28,200 pounds

The Disney Magic anchor weighs 28,200 pounds, roughly the same weight as three adult elephants.

Sound signals

The sound signals of the Disney Cruise Line ships use the first seven notes of the melody of the song « When you wish upon a star ». You can also hear the notes of other popular Disney songs.

What Disney invented in cruising

The "bath-and-a-half" bathroom

First in the cruise industry. Most cabins on Disney Cruise Line ships feature a « bath-and-a-half » bathroom design. These offer families the added convenience of a sink and tub / shower in one room and a sink and toilet in a separate room.

Innovative ship hull coating

Disney Cruise Line made history as the first cruise line to use a new hull coating:

100% non-toxic for the marine environment; It increases fuel efficiency and that helps reduce the surface resistance of ships in the water, thus decreasing the need for propulsive power when the ship glides over seas.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN

Recycling systems onboard ships

Shipboard recycling systems help divert more than 325 tonnes of aluminum, plastic, paper and non-traditional recyclable materials from conventional waste streams each year.

Single-use plastic reduction

This plastic reduction is practiced aboard ships as well as at Castaway Cay. This allows a reduction of more than 18 tonnes of plastic containers. Other actions are taken such as elimination of plastic straws, bags, utensils, coffee sticks and condiment containers, replacement of disposable polystyrene cups with cardboard cups. Water stations have also been installed to reduce the use of plastic bottles. In the cabins, refillable bath products dispensers have been installed.

Castaway Cay, Disney's original private island

Castaway Cay is the first of Disney's two islands in The Bahamas, and the most frequent stop on Bahamian and Caribbean sailings.

Disney separates the spaces by age, and that is what sets it apart from an ordinary beach. Castaway Family Beach takes the families, with water slides, sailing, kayaking and snorkelling. Serenity Bay is reserved for adults 18 and over. Scuttle's Cove welcomes the youngest, and the Teen Hideout the 14 to 17s.

Disney Cruise Line rotates its guests through its themed dining rooms and this 2 services per evening. Each evening you will discover a different restaurant while keeping your servers who will follow you each evening. Animator's Plate

This is where toddler's drawings come alive. You will be immersed in a setting reminiscent of the creation rooms of Disney's “imagineers”. The "Animator's Plate" is available on Magic and Dream Classes.

Remy ($) Adults only / Dress code required

Le Remy offers 7-course meals. A romantic dinner with food and wine pairings at Remy is a perfect opportunity to let the kids have fun at the children's clubs.

Palo & Palo Steakhouse ($) Adults only / Dress code required

The decor and cuisine of the Palo restaurant are inspired by Italy, birthplace of Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. The Palo takes its name from the poles that line the canals of Venice. This restaurant is a little extra to Disney's excellent dining offering. Do not miss a reservation at the Palo, you will live a chic and unusual experience.

Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, the second island

Disney operates a second island destination in The Bahamas, on the southern tip of Eleuthera. It welcomes ships, and Disney now presents it alongside Castaway Cay, not as a project to come.

The detail that matters for your itinerary: Disney states that a Bahamian or Caribbean cruise calls at one of the two, and sometimes at both. Have it confirmed which one appears on the sailing you are considering before you book, because it shapes a full day of the trip.

Kids 'and teens' club

• Disney’s Oceaneer Club - 3 to 10 years old

Entrances and exits are under strict surveillance, the kids' clubs are secured by Magic Band and passwords. Your children will be immersed in the world of your favorite characters while they are away! Different themes depending on the ship: Disney Magic - Toy Story, Marvel, Disney Junior, Pixie Hollow / Disney Wonder - Toy Story, Marvel, Disney Junior, Frozen / Disney Fantasy -Toy Story, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixie Hollow / Disney Dream - Toy Story, Playroom, Star Wars, Pixie Hollow.

• Disney‘s Oceaneer Lab  - 8 to 10 years old

Connected to "Disney's Oceaneer Club - 3 to 10 years" so as not to break up siblings, the oldest and the youngest of the family can mix by using the small secret door. There are plenty of activities to do for your children, so don't be surprised if you don't see them too often during your vacation. Several activities await 8 to 10 year olds: animation studio, creativity workshops, treasure hunts and much more.

• Edge - 11 to 14 years old

Your young teens will make new friends in their neighborhood, totally reserved for 11 to 14 year olds. The Edge club is equipped with the most recent technologies: computers, video games, karaoke and other attractions. Operation Hours are 10:00 am to 1:00 am.

• Vibe - 14 to 17 years old

At "Vibe", your teenagers will be able to chill and create new friendships. Together, they will be able to participate in the production of a film that includes all the stages of creation. The Zombie theme is generally the one that will be chosen by teens. This film will even be presented at a movie night. On the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy, 14-17 can, among other things, enjoy an outdoor terrace with a hot tub, sun loungers, ping pong table. They will find their favorite corner in this exclusive club with secret entrance!

Disney screens first-run feature films on board, including 3D films, with film premieres at sea the same day they land ashore.

Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to feature fireworks at sea. Only Disney ships feature fireworks in the middle of the sea.
