Description
In front of the Perito Moreno, you wait. The glacier is sixty metres high and fifteen kilometres long, and when a block weighing tens of tonnes breaks off its front face, you hear the crack before you see it fall. The wooden walkways stand less than a hundred metres from the ice.
The tour starts in Buenos Aires, from Plaza de Mayo to the multicoloured houses of La Boca, with the tunnels of the Zanjón de Granados under San Telmo and a tango dinner show. An estancia and its asado follow, then Patagonia and the icebergs of Lake Argentino. To the north, the 275 Iguazú falls drop seventy metres over nearly three kilometres, in the middle of the rainforest.
The second half of the trip climbs into the Andes. Cafayate and its bodegas at sixteen hundred metres, the Quebrada de las Flechas on Route 40, the Piedra del Molino pass at three thousand three hundred and eighty-four metres, the hill of seven colours at Purmamarca and the hill of fourteen colours at the Hornocal. The road then crosses into Chile by the Paso de Jama, towards the flamingos of the Salar de Atacama and the El Tatio geysers, which spout six metres high at daybreak. Santiago and Valparaíso close the route.
The tour is escorted in French by Groupe Voyages Québec, with a tour guide and local guides, and operates in a small group. The package includes 20 nights of accommodation, 42 meals and four domestic flights.
