In Casablanca, you take off your shoes to enter the Hassan II Mosque, the third largest in the world. That is the tenth day of this route, between a central market full of colour and a city that sets the old and the new side by side.
The trip begins in Lisbon, with a French-speaking guide waiting for the group at the airport for a panoramic tour: the Alfama, the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the views over the Tagus. The Norwegian Star leaves port the following evening and heads for the Canaries. Las Palmas, founded in 1478, then Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the sand turns from yellow to black depending on the beach, then Funchal and the wines of Madeira.
Morocco follows with three very different calls. Agadir and its beach, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake. Casablanca and its mosque. Tangier, at the mouth of the Mediterranean, where the Rolling Stones lived and the Beat Generation writers stayed. Then Spain takes over: Melilla on the African coast, Motril on the Costa Tropical, and thirteen hours in Cadiz, enough to go up to Seville.
