Description
The Sphinx keeps watch at the foot of the Giza plateau, and the Great Pyramid has stood behind it for forty-five centuries. The day continues at Dahshur, before Sneferu's two pyramids, then at Saqqara, where Djoser's step pyramid remains the oldest monumental stone structure in the world.
The tour then follows the Nile. A flight to Aswan, the sound and light show at the Temple of Philae, lunch with a Nubian family, then two nights aboard a dahabeya, the traditional two-masted boat that sails the river. A stop at Daraw for the camel market and at Silsila, whose sandstone quarries supplied the stone for the great temples.
In Luxor, the west bank opens the Valley of the Kings and the tombs of Seti I, Ramesses VI and Tutankhamun, then the Valley of the Queens and the frescoes of Nefertari. The road to Hurghada stops at Dendera, where Hathor's zodiac is carved into the temple ceiling. Three nights by the Red Sea close the trip before the return through Cairo and the Khan el-Khalili souk.
The tour is escorted in French by Groupe Voyages Québec, with a tour guide and local guides, and operates in a small group. The package includes 15 nights of accommodation, 2 of them aboard the dahabeya, 44 meals, two domestic flights and every activity in the programme.
