Itinerary

Quebec City – Montreal – Val-d’Or (777 km) Departure from Quebec City toward the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region via Montreal. Travel through classic northern Quebec landscapes before arriving in Val-d’Or, a town born from the gold rush era. In the late afternoon, ascend the Rotary Tower located in Belvédère Park to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding region. Hotel check-in and overnight stay in Val-d’Or.

Val-d’Or – Amos (68 km) Visit the Cité de l’Or site, including the Bourlamaque Mining Village, followed by an immersive underground mine tour where guests dress as miners and discover the secrets of the Abitibi subsoil (warm clothing and closed shoes recommended). In the afternoon, visit the Guardian’s Dispensary to experience the daily life of colonial-era nurses. Continue to the Pageau Refuge, a wildlife rehabilitation center dedicated to injured wild animals. Overnight stay in Amos. (B)

Amos – Radisson (784 km) Journey north into the vast wilderness of the Baie-James region, crossing expansive boreal forests and remote landscapes. Pass by the Broadback and Rupert Rivers, historically used by the Cree people for travel and hunting routes. Arrival in Radisson late in the day and hotel check-in for a two-night stay. Dinner included. (B/D)

Radisson Day dedicated to exploring the James Bay hydroelectric complex. A Hydro-Québec representative provides an overview of electricity production and large-scale infrastructure in the region. Visit the Robert-Bourassa generating station, including an impressive underground tour 140 meters below the surface inside a cathedral-sized machine hall. Lunch included. In the afternoon, visit the La Grande-1 generating station and the monument honoring the 6,000 workers who built the project. Return to Radisson for dinner. (B/L/D) Note: Individuals with implanted medical devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, or cochlear implants are not permitted on the underground tour. Photo identification is required for entry.

Radisson – Amos (784 km) Return south toward Abitibi, enjoying once again the breathtaking northern Quebec wilderness landscapes. Arrival in Amos, hotel check-in, and overnight stay. (B/L)

Amos – Montreal – Quebec City (850 km) Visit the Malartic Regional Mining Museum, showcasing a rich collection of artifacts related to local mining history. Continue through the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, offering a final immersion into Quebec’s boreal nature before returning to Montreal and then Quebec City in the evening. (B)
