It is the largest and best-equipped of the three Elite Island properties on Antigua, and the only one welcoming families with a kids' club while reserving its Royal Suites section for adults.

Families and adults on one estate

This is what really sets the address apart from the island's two other Elite Island properties. St. James's welcomes families with a supervised kids' club, while reserving its Royal Suites section for guests eighteen and over.

In practice, a child-free couple and a three-generation family can travel together without imposing the same rhythm on everyone. Two beaches, two moods

The peninsula faces two distinct stretches of water. Mamora Bay beach, the main one, is calm and sheltered, backed by the marina: this is the beach for families and quiet swims.

Coco's Beach, on the ocean side, is more open and livelier. You move from one to the other in a few minutes on foot, which lets you choose your water by mood and by wind, a rare flexibility.

Which unit to choose

Club Rooms, around thirty-nine square metres, form the entry level. Premium Rooms and Beachfront Rooms rise to forty-six and fifty square metres and take up to four people. Premium Junior Suites offer comparable space in a suite layout.

Royal Suites, around fifty-three square metres, sit in the adults-only section. At the top, two- and three-bedroom villas of 148 to 176 square metres sleep up to seven: one of the few options on Antigua for an extended family or two couples sharing.

Where you eat on site

Five restaurants share the estate: The Docksider handles the buffet, Piccolo Mondo the Italian, and Rainbow Garden, Coco's and Eleven-11 fill out the menu. A beach bar and grill and the Mamora Bay café come on top.

Is it an all-inclusive?

Yes, with supplements at certain à la carte venues. Two mandatory charges are added and deserve to be known in advance: a resort fee of around twenty-nine US dollars per room per night, and a tourism levy of five dollars per guest per night.

Travelling with children

The kids' club takes four- to eleven-year-olds daily from a quarter past nine to half past five. Children must be potty-trained and able to communicate. It is the only one of the three Elite Island properties on Antigua to offer this.

Around it the facilities abound: six pools, several of them set apart, four tennis courts lit at night, three pickleball courts, a fitness centre open at all hours, and included non-motorised water sports — Hobie Cat catamarans, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling.

Who this resort suits

It fits families and multi-generational groups, thanks to the villas and the split between family and adult sections. It fits tennis and pickleball players, rarely so well served in the Caribbean. It fits anyone who likes a large estate with space and several moods.

Anyone wanting a small intimate address, true luxury service or a beach three steps from their room will be better served elsewhere. The resort's island-wide ranking sits mid-table despite its awards, and we would rather tell you than leave it out.

What to know before you book

Allow thirty to forty minutes by road from V.C. Bird International Airport, depending on traffic through St. John's. The estate is large and hilly: ask for a room near the beach if walking is a problem.

Antigua lies inside the hurricane belt, whose season runs from 1 June to 30 November, with a peak in August and September. The East Caribbean dollar is the official currency, though US dollars circulate everywhere, and driving is on the left. English Harbour and Shirley Heights are about twenty minutes away.
