Travel in Belgium

Travel to Belgium

Whether you are travelling to Belgium as a couple, with the family, with the guys, or with the the girls, you'll find plenty of activities to enjoy and places to discover. Here are some suggestions to make your stay in Belgium unforgettable.

Brussels, the Capital

If you are planning a trip to Belgium, you have to go to Brussels, the capital, to admire its monuments, enjoy its cuisine (and its chocolate!), drink the local beer on a terrace, shop at trendy boutiques, stroll through its cobbled streets, and lose yourself in its endless nightlife.

Indeed, this charming city offers its share of discoveries, beginning with its charming Mini-Europe park where you can admire reproductions in miniature of 350 monuments found in the 28 countries that make up the European Union. Among the monuments that you can discover (and photograph) are London's Big Ben and the Acropolis of Athens. A stroll through the park with your sweetheart is a must.

The Atomium

A real tourist icon in Brussels, the Atomium is a monument consisting of nine spheres representing a unit cell of an iron crystal. It is part of the historical and cultural heritage of the country.

On the site, you can visit eight exhibitions, including a permanent one that traces the key moments in the history of the famous pavilion from the 1958 World Exposition that has since become a symbol of Europe.

In addition, you can climb to the top to get a breathtaking panorama of the city. Up there, you are treated to an idyllic spectacle enhanced by the city lights. One can also savour a gourmet dinner served in a panoramic restaurant, also offering great views. A must if you go on holiday in Belgium with your sweetheart!

Grand-Place, Brussels

One of the most beautiful public squares in the world and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Belgium, Grand-Place is the central square of the country. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is particularly famous for its spectacular Gothic architecture and its lively atmosphere, both day and night.

Cultural centre of Belgium, Grand-Place is worth seeing, if only for coffee or a snack at one of its many outdoor restaurants and cafes.

Belgian cuisine – whether mussels, waffles, chocolate, or beer – is also a must. No one goes to Belgium without sampling a waffle or Belgian chocolate!

Other cities

Other towns that absolutely must be explored during a trip to Belgium include Antwerp, with its shabby appearance and historical monuments, such as the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Katedraal, the largest Gothic cathedral in the country, and the city of Bulges, the most visited city in Belgium. One goes there to visit its Grand Place, as majestic as that of Brussels. Its main monument is the belfry of Bruges, in which you can climb 366 steps (if you have the stamina!) to earn yourself a panoramic, breathtaking view of the city's charms.
