Disney's Typhoon Lagoon – A Water Park Like No Other!
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park opened its doors on June 1, 1989, and features one of the largest wave pools in the world.
Since 1976, the River Country water park had been a favorite among visitors at the Walt Disney World Resort, but being located within the campground, it was difficult to access and its expansion was impossible.
On February 4, 1987, Disney announced that to continue the improvement works of the Walt Disney World Resort, they would build a larger new water park. The park’s theme is based on a "Disney legend" in which a hurricane named Connie destroyed Pleasure Island and devastated the lagoon. Boats, fishing nets, and surfboards were left right where the hurricane deposited them! The park’s central point is Miss Tilly, a shrimp boat perched atop the volcanic peak of Mount Mayday, whose "geysers" are still active.
Since its expansion in 2004, Typhoon Lagoon now covers 25 hectares and delights both young and old!
